I’m Heidi, and here's what sets my practice apart:
I don't believe you're broken or need to be “fixed”.
After many years specializing in perinatal mental health, reproductive wellness, and trauma recovery, I've learned that healing isn't about me giving you answers. It's about creating space for you to hear your own wisdom again—the wisdom that gets buried under conflicting advice, impossible expectations, and the exhaustion of just surviving. And through all of that, here’s what I’ve found: the part of you that's overwhelmed? It's trying to protect you. The part that feels numb? It stepped in when the feelings were too much. We don't silence these parts. We honor them, and listen to what they need.
Why The Credentials Actually Matter
My professional degrees include a double master’s degree in music therapy (MMT) and professional counseling, and I am a board certified music therapist (MT-BC) and a licensed professional counselor (LPC). Over the years, I expanded my training to support the needs of developing families by completing trainings that specifically address reproductive stress: Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C), Certified Complex Trauma Practitioner (CCTP-II), level 1 Eye-Movement, Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), Certified Birth & Bereavement Doula (CD-SBD), and a specialization in fertility care for mental health professionals from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM-MHP). I also hold certifications in Advanced Grief Counseling (CAGS) and as a Mindfulness Informed Professional (CMIP).
I pursued post-graduate training because I kept meeting with people whose complex reproductive and parenting experiences weren't supported adequately by conventional therapy frameworks. In our work together, we will design a care plan that meets your specific needs, in whatever stage of the reproductive journey you are on. And, if you feel that your needs aren’t being met, we’ll regroup and create something that is a better fit for you.
What Working Together Actually Looks Like
I understand what you mean when you say "I don't recognize myself anymore" after a difficult experience. In our work together, you won’t find pressure to “get it right”, or pressure to feel like you have it together when you're just trying to survive. Instead, we’ll create a space where your internal contradictions make sense. Where any thought or feeling can be seen, expressed, understood, and translated into forward momentum. Where we work at the pace your nervous system can handle, not the pace productivity culture demands.
I strive to practice within an anti-oppressive, feminist therapy framework that honors the lived experiences and cultures of the people I am working with. My approach weaves together Internal Family Systems therapy (exploring the parts of you that are in conflict), EMDR for processing trauma that lives in your body, mindfulness to help you stay in the present moment (vs the past or the future), context for the stages of grief and loss, and a variety of somatic (body-based) tools that help you trust your own body again. I use my training as a music therapist and professional counselor to creatively help you find yourself after years of adapting to layers of stress. Together, we discover and trust the tools that have existed within yourself and find ways for you to use them in your everyday life moving forward.
